Permanent closure must be performed under the supervisory control of a certified individual (Ala. Admin. Code 335-6-15-.34).

LDEQ UST Certified Worker - Closure
Tank cleaning, purging/inerting, sampling, removal or fill-in-place must be done by/under an LDEQ-certified worker. Two certification types (Installations/Repairs and Closure); valid 2 years; 16 hrs continuing education to renew.

MDEQ Certified Contractor - Permanent Closure
An MDEQ-certified contractor MUST supervise permanent closure of any UST in use on/after Dec 22, 1988. Separate exams for Permanent Closure and Installation/Alteration (study: API 1604, 1615, 1632); testing in Jackson.

Pollutant Storage Systems Contractor (PSSC)
DBPR/CILB license (FS 489.133) covering installation, maintenance, repair, alteration and removal of pollutant storage tanks. Requires 4 years experience (1 supervisory) and the Pearson VUE trade exam.
